Graham sleeps in

Kansas sophomore guard Devonte’ Graham found himself in a rare place on Saturday afternoon: Bill Self’s dog house.

Graham overslept a morning shootaround and lost his spot in the starting lineup during No. 2 Kansas’ 88-46 victory over Montana at Allen Fieldhouse. Graham entered the game at the 14:01 mark in the first half and finished with nine points in 21 minutes.

“Devonte’ had a sleep disorder this morning,” Self said. “So he overslept.”

Self, who said Graham would return to his usual starting spot on Tuesday at San Diego State, did not appear too upset with the normally-reliable Graham. Junior Brannen Greene started in his place and finished with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting.

“For whatever reason, he didn’t say his alarm was broke or didn’t work,” Self said. “He didn’t come with that one. But certainly, that was the only reason why he didn’t start today. He’ll be back in the starting lineup.”

Selden scene

For the first time this season, junior guard Wayne Selden had a cold shooting day from three-point range. Selden, who entered Saturday shooting 60 percent from three-point range, was zero for four from deep. Self, though, was pleased with Selden’s performance, including a hustle play that appeared to spark Kansas in the first half. With Kansas leading in the first half, Selden forced a turnover by diving on a loose ball, igniting a fast break.

“I told our guys on the bench: ‘OK, he’s not making shots today. Let’s see what he does to help us win in other areas,’ ” Self said. “And he played as well today as he did those games where he’s making shots. I thought he was really good. And the play he made in the first half was probably the best hustle play we’ve had so far this year.”

▪ Self said freshman guard Lagerald Vick didn’t suit up Saturday because of an illness.
