Meet the 2015-16 Kansas basketball team
A look at the Jayhawks’ 2015-16 players:
Perry Ellis
Height: 6-8
Year: Senior
Position: Forward
It seems like the Wichita native has been wearing a Kansas uniform for much longer than three years. A long-time starter, Ellis will lead the Jayhawks as a senior and be in the running for Big 12 Player of the Year honors.
Devonte Graham
Height: 6-2
Year: Sophomore
Position: Guard
Much will be expected from the sophomore guard. A surprise late addition to Jayhawks’ 2014 recruiting class, he came on late as a freshman and should be a difference-maker now that he has experience.
Frank Mason
Height: 5-11
Year: Junior
Position: Guard
When Mason was at his best last season, he was one of the top point guards in the Big 12, if not the nation. Some experts think he is ready to be that player consistently.
Wayne Selden
Height: 6-5
Year: Junior
Position: Guard
A former high school All-American, Selden has been a disappointment for the Jayhawks so far, but he appeared to take big steps at the World University Games. As a junior, he could be a X-factor.
Brannen Greene
Height: 6-7
Year: Junior
Position: Guard
When he’s hot, few shoot it better from the outside. Greene, of Juliette, Ga., made 40.4 percent of his three-pointers last season.
Landen Lucas
Height: 6-10
Year: Junior
Position: Forward
A 6-foot-10 junior from Portland, Lucas showed flashes of brilliance late last season. He may be ready to average more than 15 minutes.
Jamari Traylor
Height: 6-8
Year: Senior
Position: Forward
The Chicago native could be in for a big junior season. He is one of the hardest-playing bigs in the Big 12.
Carlton Bragg
Height: 6-9
Year: Freshman
Position: Forward
Bragg comes to Lawrence from Cleveland. He is big and he is athletic and that will probably get him on the floor as a freshman. But he will have to shine to earn a starting spot in the Jayhawks’ crowded frontcourt.
Cheick Diallo
Height: 6-9
Year: Fr.
Position: Forward
The 6-foot-9 forward was viewed as the gem of Bill Self’s latest recruiting class. The NCAA hasn’t declared him eligible to play yet. His status greatly impacts the team’s depth.
Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk
Height: 6-8
Year: Sophomore
Position: Guard
The Ukrainian native was a mystery as a freshman, joining the Jayhawks late in the recruiting process at the age of 17. He had some good moments early, but faded late. If he takes a step forward, he could play a big role as a sophomore.
Hunter Mickelson
Height: 6-10
Year: Senior
Position: Forward
Mickelson hasn’t done anything flashy since transferring to Kansas, but he has been solid. Many other teams would love to bring a fundamentally sound 6-10 forward off the bench.
Lagerald Vick
Height: 6-5
Year: Freshman
Position: Guard
A 6-5 guard from Memphis, Vick will add depth to the Kansas backcourt.
Evan Manning
Height: 6-3
Year: Senior
Position: Guard
Manning is one of the team’s favorite walkons. Fans love his personality and name. His father, Danny Manning, led Kansas to a national championship in 1988.
Tyler Self
Height: 6-2
Year: Junior
Position: Guard
You always know a game is out of hand when Bill Self inserts his son into the lineup. The walkon brings personality to the locker room.
Clay Young
Height: 6-5
Year: Sophomore
Position: Guard
A walkon from Kansas City (Kan.) Community College. He started at KCK as a freshman and was granted a medical redshirt last season after tearing an anterior cruciate ligament in the season’s second game.
Dwight Coleby
Height: 6-9
Year: Junior
Position: Forward
Coleby will sit out as a transfer this season after averaging 5.4 points and 4.8 rebounds last season at Mississippi.
