These former KU & Mizzou stars landed on College Football Hall of Fame ballot
Their teams faced off in one of the most memorable games in Border War history. Two decades after that Border War clash at Arrowhead Stadium, Missouri tight end Chase Coffman and Kansas cornerback Aqib Talib find themselves on the 2027 NFF College Football Hall of Fame ballot.
Coffman and Talib had superb college careers. Coffman, who played in high school at Raymore-Peculiar, won the John Mackey Award as the nation’s top tight end in 2008, when he was a consensus All-American.
Talib is Kansas’ most recent consensus All-American, in 2007. The Jayhawks fell to Missouri in a memorable Border War that season but went on to win the Orange Bowl and finish with a school-record 12 victories.
Coffman and Talib are among 80 major college players on the ballot, which will be considered by more than 12,000 members of the National Football Foundation. Their recommendations will advance to the NFF Honors Court, which will select the class.
The ballot also includes those who made marks in the NAIA and MIAA, such as Dennis Franchione, who coached five Division I programs, including Alabama, and went 53-6 in five seasons at Pittsburg State.
Wide receiver Tony Miles, a two-time Division II All-American at Northwest Missouri State, helped the Bearcats to NCAA championships in 1998 and 1999.
