Former Kansas basketball guard Jeremy Case, who joined Bill Self’s coaching staff in August of 2016 and was named a full-time assistant coach in April 2021, has been promoted to associate head coach, KU head coach Self announced Tuesday.

“Jeremy has done a tremendous job as an assistant coach since 2021,” Self said Tuesday. “He has played a big role both on the court and in the new world of college basketball recruiting. Jeremy and I discussed this promotion last spring but delayed announcing it with the staff changes we had going into the summer. I’m very excited for Jeremy and his family. He’s a rising star in the profession.”

With Case on staff, which includes 2009 when he was a graduate student, Kansas has won one NCAA title, five Big 12 regular-season championships and one Big 12 tournament title. KU has advanced to three NCAA Tournament Sweet 16s, an NCAA Elite Eight and one Final Four during Case’s time on the coaching staff.

“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to continue my development at a place that is so special to me,” Case said Tuesday. “Having the chance each day to work for a Hall of Fame coach is such an honor. I’m thankful to coach Self for the belief he has in me as a coach and am very excited to continue to work with a great staff.”

Kansas has produced nine consensus All-America selections with Case on the coaching staff. Additionally, there have been more than 50 Big 12 postseason awards won by Jayhawk players during Case’s stint on Self’s coaching staff.

With Case on the KU staff, 11 Jayhawks have been selected in the NBA Draft and more than 25 players have played professionally either in the NBA, the G League or overseas.

Case came to KU after four seasons as an assistant coach at Houston Baptist University. Prior to HBU, Case spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Southeast Missouri State. Case was a member of Kansas’ 2008 NCAA title team and after graduation was on the KU staff while taking graduate courses for the 2008-09 season.

A native of McAlester, Oklahoma, Case redshirted in 2004-05. He played in 94 games at Kansas and won four Big 12 regular-season and three Big 12 Tournament championships. Including the 2008 title, Case was part of three NCAA Elite Eight teams while playing at KU.

Case earned his bachelor’s degree in communications in 2007 and was a two-time Academic All-Big 12 first-team honoree in 2006 and 2008.

Self’s coaching staff consists of Case, plus Kurtis Townsend, Joe Dooley, Jacque Vaughn and Tony Bland as assistants. Brennan Bechard is director of scouting, Lexi Price director of basketball operations, Doc Sadler senior adviser and KJ Adams assistant video coordinator.

Bland and Vaughn are in their first years on the coaching staff. Former assistant Norm Roberts elected to retire after last season, while former assistant Chase Buford joined the staff of the NBA’s Denver Nuggets. Director of basketball operations Fred Quartlebaum also left the program.
