  • Kansas basketball targets Davion Adkins for 2026-27 recruiting class.
  • Adkins plans official visit to KU after relocating to Florida's Prolific Prep.
  • Adkins cites KU's NBA development track record as a key attraction.

Numerous high school basketball players in the recruiting class of 2026 have emerged as candidates for scholarships at Kansas during the summer 2025 evaluation period.

Here’s an update on some players the Jayhawks are looking at as the 2025-26 school year approaches:

Davion Adkins, 6-foot-8, 210-pound senior power forward, Prolific Prep, a school that has relocated from Napa, California to Fort Lauderdale, Florida:

Adkins, who is ranked No. 32 in the recruiting class of 2026 by 247sports.com, No, 37 by Rivals.com and No. 51 by ESPN.com, will make an official recruiting visit to KU on Sept. 26-28, ON3.com has reported.

Adkins, a player with a 7-2 wingspan, has a final list of KU, Houston, Indiana, UCLA, Auburn and Rutgers. He’s already completed an unofficial visit to KU.

Of KU, Adkins told On3.com: “I like the way they (KU coaches) develop and send bigs, wings, and guards to the league (NBA). I know they could develop me really well based on their history.”

He was the top-rated player in Texas prior to announcing plans to leave Dallas’ Faith Family Academy for Prolific Prep for his final year of high school basketball.

He averaged 11.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 blocked shots per game while shooting 54.8% from the field at the recent NBPA Top 100 camp in South Carolina.

“There might not have been a bigger presence at the front of the rim than Davion Adkins. The 6-8 post player is a supreme rim protector, not only showing quick explosive burst, but also excellent timing,” wrote recruiting analyst Jamie Shaw of On3.com.

“Offensively, Adkins plays out of the dunker spot. He is a high-flyer, and while needing others to set up his opportunities, he takes a consolidated approach to creating his advantages. He will need to expand his shooting touch, become a threat from outside of 5-feet offensively, but the presence he brings on defense erases a lot of mistakes,” Shaw added.

Latrell Allmond, 6-8, 225, senior power forward, Petersburg (Virginia) High School:

Allmond, who is ranked No. 31 in the recruiting class of 2026 by Rivals.com, No. 36 by ESPN.com and No. 41 by 247sports.com, will make an official recruiting visit to KU on Aug. 28-30, On3.com has reported.

Allmond has a list of KU, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Virginia, Michigan State, Maryland, Miami, Arizona and Indiana. He has taken an official visit to Indiana and made unofficial trips to Oklahoma State, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Prior to cutting his list to nine, Allmond also considered Missouri, Cincinnati, LSU, Texas A&M, Utah, Michigan and other programs.

“Latrell Allmond was one of the stars of the NBPA Top 100 Camp and parlayed that into the June scholastic live period. Playing with Petersburg High, Allmond was an offensive threat at multiple levels. He gained advantages from two and three dribbles and consistently shot the ball at a high rate,” wrote Joe Tipton of On3.com.

“Allmond is a noted tough guy, a player who finds winning plays consistently throughout the course of a game. This summer, with the Team Loaded (Virginia) program on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, Allmond has averaged 15.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while shooting 47.1% from 3. Allmond had the baselines buzzing as he continues to be one of the biggest risers in this cycle.”

Caleb Holt, 6-5, 185, senior shooting guard, Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Florida:

Holt, ranked No. 3 in the class of 2026 by Rivals.com, No. 5 by ESPN.com and No. 6 by 247sports.com, told On3.com he will visit KU at a yet-to-be-determined date.

Originally from New Market, Alabama, Holt — who has visited Mississippi — has scheduled campus visits to Kentucky, Alabama and Auburn. He also is being recruited by North Carolina, UConn and other schools.

Before enrolling at Prolific Prep, he attended Buckhorn High in New Market as well as Grayson High in Loganville, Georgia.

In June, On3.com’s Shaw ranked Holt as the second best performer at USA Basketball’s Under 17 training camp, behind only BYU freshman AJ Dybantsa.

“From an athleticism and body frame standpoint, Holt has drawn comparisons to a young Jimmy Butler,” wrote SI.com.

Ikenna Alozie, 6-3, 185, senior shooting guard, Dream City Christian High in Glendale, Arizona (originally from Nigeria):

Alozie, who is ranked No. 10 in the class of 2026 by Rivals.com, No. 16 by ESPN.com and No. 20 by 247sports.com, will visit KU for the Oct. 17 Late Night in the Phog, he told Zagsblog.com.

He is considering KU, Arizona, Alabama, Houston, Gonzaga, Louisville, Kentucky and Washington.

Alozie averaged 15.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in 20 games with the Utah Prospects this summer on the Nike EYBL tour. He hit 44.6% of his shots.

“I think I fit pretty well,” he said of KU’s system in an interview with Zagsblog.com. “The style of play is different. The culture they have there is crazy. Obviously, I’m trying to see how they’ll do this year. But the relationship with me and coach (Kurtis) Townsend, coach Bill Self, they’re just letting me know they’re coming hard for me.”

Tay Kinney, 6-2, 185, senior point guard, Overtime Elite, Atlanta, Georgia:

Kinney, who is originally from Newport, Kentucky, will make an official visit to KU on Aug. 22-24, according to Rivals.com. He is ranked No. 11 nationally by 247sports.com, No. 17 by ESPN.com and No. 20 by Rivals.com.

His top 12 schools, according to On3.com, are Kansas, Arkansas, Auburn, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Oregon, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas and Xavier.

Kinney said he will cut his list to seven Aug. 22.

“Kinney is a scoring and playmaking lead guard who is smooth and versatile with his attack. He’s a three-range scoring threat who is creative and crisp with his handle, especially adept at getting to his pull-up, but can also get to the paint. He can rise up at the rim when he has some momentum, and also owns dexterity and touch as a lay-up maker,” wrote recruiting analyst Adam Finkelstein of 247sports.com. “He’s capable of knocking down open 3s, with a plenty projectable stroke, but could get more consistent after making 33% in Overtime Elite last season and short-arming his release at times.

“Kinney (with a 6-6 wingspan) also has good instincts and timing as a passer. Defensively, he’s good with his hands and has shown flashes of being able to blow-up ball screens.”

Ethan Taylor, 7-1, 245 senior center, Link Year Academy, Branson, Missouri:

Taylor — he is ranked No. 22 nationally by 247sports.com, No. 28 by Rivals.com and No. 33 by ESPN.com — made an unofficial visit to KU on June 24, a school he’s visited unofficially many times.

The former Shawnee Mission Northwest standout, off to a new school for his senior year, is being recruited by KU, Kansas State, Missouri, Indiana, Iowa, Creighton, Baylor, Tennessee, Houston, Texas, Florida State, Oregon and other programs.

Taylor averaged 9.2 points and 7.3 rebounds in 16.3 minutes per game for Mokan Elite during the EYBL season.

“I want to be effective right away. I want there to be a family environment, where everybody’s close. I want there to be a coach who’s going to push me, a coach with success. And a school that utilizes bigs,” Taylor told hoopshq.com.

Sam Funches, 6-11, 180, senior center, Germantown High in Madison, Mississippi:

Funches, who is ranked No. 47 by Rivals.com, No. 82 by ESPN.com and No. 97 by 247sports.com, has made official visits to KU, Cal and Mississippi.

He has a list of 10 schools: KU, Kansas State, Cal, Mississippi, Gonzaga, LSU, Vanderbilt, Jackson State, Mississippi State and Penn State.

Funches averaged 11.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game playing for Sipp United on the Puma Pro16 Circuit this summer. He hit 49.5% of his floor shots, including 38.7% from 3-point range.

“They seem super humble to be a blueblood. Like they don’t match that description. They weren’t cocky at all. They can just walk and are actually humble,” Funches said of his visit to KU in an interview with Rivals.com.

“Their program had all the qualities of a blueblood. They had a whole gym in their athletic dorm. Like you don’t even have to get on a scooter and ride to the facility, it’s right there. They are still coming to my games, so they’re still interested. They’re still showing up when I’m playing,” Funches added.

Billy White III, 6-8, 175, senior small forward, Veterans Memorial High in Corpus Christi, Texas:

White, who is ranked No. 33 nationally by 247sports.com, No. 45 by ESPN.com and No. 96 by Rivals.com, has narrowed his list of schools to KU, LSU, Maryland, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, SMU, Stanford, TCU, Texas A&M and Virginia.

He has not yet scheduled a campus visit to KU. He will visit Virginia, SMU, Oklahoma State, TCU, LSU and Maryland in coming weeks.

At one time he also had Missouri, Illinois, Texas, St. John’s on his list.

“Billy White was one of the better shooters in the (recent Top 100) camp. At 6-8, he knocked down 3.2 3s per game at a 51.2% clip,” wrote On3.com’s Shaw. “The former quarterback has a projectable frame with great length. The shooting and positional size leads to very intriguing upside. (White) showcased a fluid frame with excellent shot balance. He is going to need to continue working on his strength and play off the bounce, but he did show some intriguing passing.

Gavin Placide, 6-9, 200, senior forward, Faith Family Academy, DeSoto, Texas, and his brother, Garrison Placide, a 6-9, 200 senior forward:

KU coaches made a scholarship offer to the Placide twins on July 15, Gavin reported on X. They played at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas, last school year.

Gavin is ranked No. 55 by ESPN.com and No. 61 by 247sports.com, while Garrison is ranked No. 144 in the class of 2026 by 247sports.com.

The brothers, who would like to go to the same school, have heard from coaches from Kansas, Kansas State, Florida State, Cal, San Francisco, Iowa, Mississippi State, Saint Louis, Ole Miss, Wake Forest, Indiana, Texas A&M, Virginia, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Saint Mary’s and other programs.

“Both players are skilled forwards, with emerging wing skills and the ability to shoot the 3, but with size and frames that would fit as high major stretch-fours,” wrote Mike Schumann of thedailyhoosier.com.

“They played their junior high school seasons at national prep powerhouse Sunrise Christian in Kansas. Indiana assistant coach Rod Clark was an assistant at Sunrise for two seasons from 2017-19.”

Bryson Howard, 6-6, 175, senior shooting guard, Heritage High School in Frisco, Texas:

Howard, the No 28-ranked player nationally by ESPN.com and 247sports.com and the son of former NBA player Josh Howard, has taken unofficial visits to SMU, Houston and Texas, with KU, Kentucky, Duke, Michigan State, Oklahoma, North Carolina and UConn also on his list of prospective schools.

He told On3.com he would like to visit KU.

“I watched them play for a little minute. And it’s a great program to be around, and their play style. (Self) really knows what he’s doing. And I would think that’s what people want to be around. I’d love to go to Duke, UNC, Kansas, Kentucky, all those schools (on visits). Those are about it, the ones I can think about,” Howard stated.

Abdou Toure, 6-6, 185, senior shooting guard, Notre Dame High in West Haven, Connecticut:

Toure, who is considering KU, Alabama, Louisville, Arkansas, Oregon, UConn, Arizona State and others, was offered a scholarship by KU on July 25, he told On3.com.

He is ranked No. 29 in the class of 2026 by both Rivals.com and 247sports.com and No. 35 by ESPN.com.

“He has a true love for the game,,” Notre Dame coach Jason Shea told Connecticut Insider. “You can find him a gym with fourth graders and he’ll watch the game intently. That’s unique, right?”

Bo Ogden, 6-5, 180, senior shooting guard, Westlake High in Austin, Texas:

Ogden, who is ranked No. 46 nationally by ESPN.com, No. 49 by 247sports.com and No. 86 by Rivals.com, has narrowed his list of schools to KU, Texas, Virginia, Tennessee, Purdue and Gonzaga, he told Rivals.com.

He has visited Purdue and scheduled a visit to Virginia. He has not yet set a date for a visit to KU.

Ogden led Adidas 3SSB Circuit in scoring at 22.0 points per game this summer. Texas is considered the favorite, considering Bo Ogden is the son of UT men’s basketball general manager Chris Ogden.

“Bo Ogden plays a clean game, and shows a little bit more than expected with the ball in his hands,” stated Shaw of On3.com. “He is a capable straight line driver and an adept shooter. There will always be lateral questions, but he gives consistent effort and is able to create opportunities.”

Toni Bryant, 6-10, 205, senior power forward, Zephyrhills Christian Academy in Florida:

Bryant, who made an unofficial visit to KU in March, is planning on making an official visit to KU on Nov. 2, according to Rivals.com.

Bryant — ranked No. 12 by 247sports.com, No. 13 by ESPN.com and No. 16 by Rivals.com — will visit Missouri on Sept. 6. He is also considering North Carolina, Boston College, Mississippi, USC, Michigan and N.C. State, Duke and other schools.

“The 6-9 post presence has a long and athletic frame. Seeing him play, you immediately notice how well he is a long-strider when he switches ends and has lateral dexterity in the halfcourt.” wrote Shaw of On3.com after scouting him this summer at a camp.

“Bryant is most comfortable at this point facing the basket. Offense is not natural for him yet, however, he does show flashes with some handle and some touch. He did finish a few high flying plays with lobs and putbacks. Continuing to learn the finer parts of the game is next, the angles, reads, and footwork. The tools are in place and the flashes are interesting. He has a lot of upside with his game as he continues to clean up h is consistency,” Shaw added.

Brandon McCoy, 6-4, 180, senior combo guard, St. John Bosco High, Bellflower, California:

McCoy, ranked No. 1 in the class of 2026 by Rivals.com, No. 3 by 247sports.com and No. 6 by ESPN.com, is considering KU, Arkansas, Alabama, UCLA, USC, N.C. State and Michigan — with USC, Alabama and N.C. State also in contention.

“They win,” McCoy said of KU in an interview with On3.com. “Coach Self is a solidified coach and has been a coach there for a long time. So you know what we’re going to get out of him. I wouldn’t be surprised if I went there. I feel like I know I would get better if I went there,” he added.

Tyran Stokes, 6-7, 225, senior forward, Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, California:

Stokes made an official visit to KU April 19-21. He’s also visited Kentucky and Louisville and has scheduled official visits to Oregon, Gonzaga, and USC. Arkansas also is considered a possibility.

“Stokes’ flashes of dominant outputs are too much to ignore at this point in the cycle,” On3’s Shaw wrote, adding, “When Stokes gets downhill, he is a load to deal with. Whether in the half-court or in transition, Stokes has a strong base, with explosive burst, and gets downhill with a purpose.”

“Just somewhere I’m comfortable, somewhere that feels like home and somewhere I can play my game,” Stokes said, asked what he’s looking for in a school.

Note: KU could also be recruiting several other high school players. Jayhawks coaches are not allowed to comment on individual recruits, in accordance with NCAA rules.
