Former Jayhawks great to return as coach of KU’s alumni team in summertime TBT
Former University of Kansas point guard Sherron Collins will return for a second season as coach of the KU alumni basketball team in the summertime TBT, JHX Hoops announced Tuesday.
JHX Hoops is KU’s entry in TBT 2025, which for KU starts July 19-23 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
Collins, who just completed his second season as head boys basketball coach at Oak Park High, served as the head coach of Self Made (now known as JHX Hoops) last summer. He guided the team to an appearance in the Wichita regional championship game.
The JHX roster for this summer’s tourney includes former Jayhawks Nick Timberlake, Lagerald Vick, and Cliff Alexander, with the expectation that more players will be added soon.
Collins, who played for KU’s 2008 NCAA tite team, directed Oak Park to its first-ever Missouri Class 6 state high school hoops title last season. Collins was named the recipient of the 2025 Eddie Ryan Coaching Award, presented to the top boys coach in the greater Kansas City area.
The winner of the Kansas City TBT regional will advance to the TBT quarterfinals on July 29. The semifinals will be held July 31 and the $1 million TBT championship game will be played Aug. 3.
For the first time, the TBT will give each host team the opportunity to have home-court advantage for the quarterfinals, semifinals and title contest. Should two regional hosts meet for the championship, the tiebreaker will be determined by which host sells 4,000 tickets the fastest.
JHX Hoops and Purple Reign, a K-State alumni team, will co-host the eight-team Kansas City regional.
