Former KU basketball guard David ‘Diggy’ Coit picks Big Ten transfer destination

Former Kansas guard David “Diggy” Coit will play basketball at Maryland during the 2025-26 season, he announced Tuesday on Instagram and X.

Coit, a 5-foot-11 point guard from Columbus, New Jersey, has one year of college eligibility remaining. He averaged 5.1 points and 1.5 rebounds in 15.5 minutes per game for the Jayhawks last season.

“Blessings on blessings! Let’s work @TerrapinHoops,” he wrote on social media site X.

Coit, who entered the transfer portal on March 31, was primarily a backup in the 34 games in which he played. In all he started three games. He shot 38.7% on 3-pointers (46-of-119).

Before he arrived in Lawrence, Coit played two seasons at Northern Illinois. He averaged 20.1 points per game during the 2023-24 season. In two seasons at NIU, Coit scored 1,051 points and made 175 3s, which averages out to 3.5 made per game.

He played his freshman season at Atlantic Cape, a junior college.

Coit told 247Sports: “I committed to Maryland because they’ve been recruiting me for a while and they think highly of my game. They want to put me in the best position to showcase my abilities and show what I can do. I trust them, like how they play their guards, and their culture. Whether it was Texas A&M or Maryland, I was going to be there with coach Buzz (Williams, former A&M coach now in first year at Maryland) and the rest of the staff.

“They see me being an on-ball guy, playmaker, leader, scorer and shooter,” Coit added. “They want me spreading the floor and using my ability to score and play-make for the guys. They’re going to allow me to play my game and be effective on the floor. Individually, I just want to be the best I know I can be. Accolades can’t define me. As a team, I want to win the Big Ten and a national championship. I want to be a winner coming into my last year. That’s the focus right now. I want to be the best I can be to help the team.”
