KU basketball forward, mired by injuries, will enter transfer portal … again
Kansas forward Zach Clemence has entered the transfer portal, a KU spokesperson confirmed to The Star.
The 6-foot-10, 230-pound native of San Antonio, Texas, had spent four seasons with the Jayhawks, including redshirting his junior season (2023-24). He is the first Kansas player to enter the transfer portal this offseason.
Clemence was part of KU’s 2021 recruiting class but never found a fit with the Jayhawks. Injury mired his tenure, and he even dealt with back and foot injuries during the 2022-23 season.
Clemence averaged 1.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in 5.3 minutes a game this season. He only played in eight games, missing much of the second half of the year due to a groin injury. If he receives a medical redshirt for this season, he could have two years of eligibility remaining.
This isn’t the first time Clemence has entered the transfer portal. He previously entered after the 2022-23 season and briefly committed to UC Santa Barbara but ultimately returned to Kansas.
The former four-star recruit played his junior and senior years at Sunrise Academy in Wichita. In his senior year, Clemence averaged 10.5 points and 5.0 rebounds. According to the 247Sports Composite, Clemence was the No. 50 overall recruit in his high school class.
