Former Kansas Jayhawks quarterback makes Indianapolis Colts’ NFL practice squad

Former Kansas Jayhawks quarterback Jason Bean has found an NFL home.

After not making the Indianapolis Colts’ 53-man regular-season roster when final cuts were announced Tuesday, Bean earned a spot on their practice squad.

“The Indianapolis Colts are signing my client Jason Bean (QB, Kansas) to the practice squad,” agent Brett Tessler tweeted Wednesday. “ Was one of the better QBs around the League this preseason and with a little more time and development will become a really good player.”

Bean indeed had an impressive preseason. He completed 15 of 19 passes for 197 yards, one touchdown and one interception while rushing for 53 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.

In his last season at KU, Bean led the Jayhawks to a 9-4 record and their first bowl victory since 2008. He passed for 2,130 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions and rushed for 280 yards and three touchdowns in 2023.

Before transferring to Kansas, Bean played at North Texas. In 2020, he totaled 19 touchdowns (14 passing) and five interceptions, throwing for 1,131 yards over eight games.
