Missouri, K-State and Kansas all make preseason college football Coaches Poll Top 25

Kansas, K-State, and Missouri are well-represented in the US LBM preseason Coaches Poll Top 25, which was released Monday.

Missouri was the highest-ranked of the local Division I schools, ranking No. 11 in the poll. The Tigers finished 11-2 last season, concluding with a 14-3 victory over Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl.

The Wildcats were ranked No. 17 in the poll, while the Jayhawks earned the No. 24 spot. Last season, Kansas State finished with a 9-4 record after defeating NC State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.

KU is making its first appearance in the preseason Coaches Poll since 2008. Last season, the Jayhawks finished with a 9-4 record after defeating UNLV in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl.

The preseason ranking marks the Jayhawks’ third preseason appearance in the Coaches Poll all-time, after ranking No. 13 on July 28, 2008, and No. 24 on Aug. 9, 1996.

The Jayhawks will kick off their season at home against Lindenwood on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, the Wildcats face UT Martin in Manhattan on Aug. 31 at 6 p.m.

Missouri faces off against Murray State at home on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m.

Here’s the top 10 of the Coaches Poll entering the 2024 season:

  1. Georgia (46 1st-place votes)
  2. Ohio State (7)
  3. Oregon
  4. Texas (1)
  5. Alabama
  6. Ole Miss
  7. Notre Dame
  8. Michigan (1)
  9. Penn State
  10. Florida State

The list of voters includes K-State’s Chris Klieman, Missouri’s Eliah Drinkwitz and Kansas’ Lance Leipold.
