Kansas Jayhawks defensive lineman Gage Keys is 3rd KU player to enter transfer portal

Kansas Jayhawks defensive lineman Gage Keys will enter the transfer portal.

“Thank you for everything, Kansas,” Keys tweeted Thursday. “This has been the best year of my life and I’m proud to call KU my Alma mater. Will be a Jayhawk forever, and I appreciate every single one of you. So much love for y’all.”

Keys will have two seasons of eligibility remaining. He spent one season with the Jayhawks, transferring to Lawrence last offseason after three seasons with Minnesota.

Keys played in all 12 KU games this fall, starting three. He finished with 21 tackles, including 13 solo, as a rotational D-lineman for KU. He played a total of 301 snaps.

Keys is the third KU scholarship player to enter the portal recently, joining wide receiver Tanaka Scott and tight end Will Huggins.

A three-star recruit coming out of high school, Keys picked Minnesota over Indiana, Rutgers, and others. KU defensive tackles coach Jim Panagos had recruited him when he was an assistant coach for the Golden Gophers; Panagos later joined Lance Leipold’s Jayhawks staff.
