Kansas Jayhawks running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. returns to practice and ‘looks amazing’
After missing the Jayhawks’ first seven spring football practices due to a muscle injury, Kansas football running back Daniel Hishaw Jr. returned to on-field work Thursday.
Hishaw’s teammates were excited to have him back.
“He looks amazing,” KU wide receiver Quentin Skinner said Thursday. “I grew up with Deuce, like in high school — we are from the same area in Oklahoma. So seeing a guy that’s been in your corner and around you for a long time, it’s great to see him play the game he loves and go at full speed with a smile on his face.”
Hishaw had an excellent start to last season, with 259 yards, five touchdowns and a 5.9 yards-per-carry average in five games. But then he suffered a significant hip injury in KU’s 14-11 win over Iowa State on Oct. 4.
Despite practicing late in the season, Hishaw wouldn’t play another snap in 2022. Devin Neal was the starter at running back for the rest of the season, totaling 1,090 yards and nine touchdowns.
The competition for the majority of the Jayhawks’ snaps at running back now looks to be between Hishaw, Neal and Dylan McDuffie, a transfer from Georgia Tech.
