Kansas Jayhawks slated to meet St. John’s in 2021 Big East-Big 12 Battle in New York

Kansas’ men’s basketball team will be making two trips to New York for a pair of games during the upcoming 2021-22 nonconference season.

The Jayhawks, who will play Michigan State in the 2021 Champions Classic on Nov. 9 at Madison Square Garden, have been matched against St. John’s in the 2021 Big12-Big East Battle, the conferences have announced.

The game is set for Dec. 2 at UBS Arena, home of the New York Islanders, located in Elmont, New York. No time has yet been set for the game.

Other games as reported Wednesday by the two leagues: Marquette at Kansas State (Dec. 8), Texas Tech at Providence (Dec. 1), Iowa State at Creighton (Dec. 4), Xavier at Oklahoma State (Dec. 5), Butler at Oklahoma (Dec. 7), UConn at West Virginia (Dec. 8), Texas at Seton Hall (Dec. 9), Villanova at Baylor (Dec. 12) and TCU at Georgetown (Dec. 18).

St. John’s is coming off a 16-11 season. The Red Storm went 10-9 in Big East play. Coach Mike Anderson, the 2021 Big East Coach of the Year, recently signed an extension that runs through 2026-27.

KU last year beat Creighton 73-72 in the Big East-Big 12 Battle on Dec. 8 at Allen Fieldhouse. In 2019, the first year of the Battle, KU lost at Villanova, 56-55.

KU will play in the 2021 ESPN Events Invitational on Nov. 25, 26 and 28 in the Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida,. The field consists of KU, Alabama, Belmont, Dayton, Drake, Iona, Miami and North Texas. No matchups have been set for that event yet.
