Kansas Jayhawks recruiting Arizona high school point guard ranked 32nd in country
TyTy Washington, a 6-foot-4, 180-pound senior point guard from Compass Prep School in Chandler, Arizona, remains a serious Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball recruiting target, according to analyst Eric Bossi of 247sports.com.
Washington, who withdrew his Creighton commitment March 11, reported March 14 on Twitter he’d been offered a scholarship by KU.
Washingon — he averaged 24.0 points, 7.0 assists and 6.0 rebounds per game this past season for 27-1 Compass Prep — is considering KU, Arizona, Illinois, LSU, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Texas Tech, UCLA, Kentucky, Arizona State, Duke, Dayton, DePaul, Texas A&M, Pitt and others.
“From intel coming in from coaches looking to get involved, early word is that perhaps Bill Self and the Jayhawks have put themselves in best position, which would be huge for them given their need to sign a point guard this spring,” writes Bossi.
Washington, the the No. 32-ranked player in the recruiting Class of 2021 according to Rivals.com, initially committed to Creighton on Nov. 15 over then-runner-up Illinois.
He has been on Arizona State’s campus several times and traveled to Illinois on his own to visit the campus in Champaign, Illinois in late October despite the pandemic.
“He shoots from deep, he’s crafty with the ball and he’s a flat out competitor who is going to be in the conversation for five-star status,” writes Bossi.
Harris brothers pick Seton Hall
Jamir Harris, a 6-1 graduate transfer point guard from American University, who reportedly had KU on his list of schools, has committed to Seton Hall, he reported on Twitter. His brother Jaquan, a 6-4 junior point guard from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Edison, New Jersey, also has committed to play at Seton Hall. Jamir averaged 20.5 points, 3.5 assists and 2.8 rebounds this past season at American. He chose Seton Hall over Kansas State, Robert Morris, LaSalle and Florida Gulf Coast, according to nj.com.
KU reportedly recruiting Pettiford
Bobby Pettiford, a 6-0 senior point guard from South Granville High School in Creedmoor, North Carolina, has heard from KU since decommitting from Louisville last weekend, 247sports.com reports.
Pettiford, the No. 115-ranked player in the recruiting Class of 2021 by Rivals.com, is being recruited by KU, Maryland, Georgia, South Carolina, Providence, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and others, 247sports.com reports.
He first committed to Louisville in June of 2020.
Pettiford averaged 19.8 points, 6.4 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game this past season.
“A true high-flyer in the open floor, Pettiford’s ability to put the ball down and get into the paint and make decisions or score at the rim really puts pressure on defenders,” writes Bossi of 247sports.com. “There won’t be a rush so there is time for programs to get involved here.”
