Kansas Jayhawks football season opener will be on national TV ... if you’re awake

Kansas football’s season opener will be on national TV, though that comes at a cost.

KU Athletics announced Tuesday that Sept. 12’s home game against Coastal Carolina will kick off at 9 p.m. at Booth Memorial Stadium. It will be televised on FS1.

Athletic director Jeff Long, in a release, said it was a priority was getting the game on a national stage.

“We have players from all across the country on our football team and playing on FS1 in the 9 p.m. time slot will provide their families and KU football fans the opportunity to watch,” Long said. “While it may be a later kickoff than we are accustomed to, Coach (Les) Miles and the team are excited to play in front of a national audience to start the season.”

The game will not have fans; chancellor Douglas Girod announced that decision Monday, saying the school would continue to evaluate the possibility of spectators at KU sporting events in future months.

Tim Brando and Spencer Tillman will call the game for FS1.
