Kendall Brown, No. 12-ranked player in Class of 2021, picks Baylor over KU, others
Kendall Brown, a 6-foot-7 senior small forward from Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas, on Monday verbally committed to play basketball at Baylor over Kansas and others.
Brown, who is originally from Minnesota, is ranked No. 12 in the recruiting Class of 2021. He attended the 2019 Late Night in the Phog in Lawrence as part of an unofficial recruiting visit to KU.
Schools on his list included Ohio State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa State, Texas, Marquette and Maryland.
“I’ve been telling people for a while that I’m going to surprise them (recruiting analysts),” Brown told Rivals.com after committing to Baylor.
He told 247sports.com: “Relationships are big for me. Also, I want to see how the coaches are going to develop me to the next level. I want to see how they can develop my game and have me ready to reach my goals.”
Analyst Eric Bossi of Rivals.com said: “Currently ranked No. 12 nationally in the class of 2021, Brown is an elite level athlete by any standard with 6-foot-7 size and tremendous versatility. He’s at his best slashing to the rim and finishing in transition but can defend all five positions during switches, has excellent lateral quickness and is a team player. All of the things he does well at his size, Andre Roberson has used to make a lucrative living at the NBA level.”
Bossi added: “Brown joins a pretty filthy group that has all committed to Baylor within the last week or so. Forward Jeremy Sochan ranked in the national top 40 before moving to Germany to play club ball for his senior year and shooting guard Langston Love is a top 50 player nationally. Together, the group now ranks as the No. 1 class in the 2021 team recruiting rankings.”
KU has landed one player thus far in the recruiting Class of 2021: Zach Clemence, a 6-10 senior — also from Sunrise Christian — who is ranked No. 29 in the Class of 2021 by Rivals.com. KU also has landed a walk-on combo guard in Keon Coleman, a senior football/basketball player from Opelousas, Louisiana.
