Kansas offers hoops scholarship to No. 27-ranked player in recruiting Class of 2021

Efton Reid, a 6-foot-11 junior center from The Steward School in Richmond, Virginia, has been offered a basketball scholarship at Kansas, it was reported by Team Loaded AAU on Twitter.

Reid, the No. 27-rated player in the recruiting Class of 2021 by Rivals.com, is considering KU, Georgetown, Michigan, Louisville, Kentucky, Florida, Ohio State, Virginia and others.

Reid averaged 19.0 points (on 74.6% shooting), 12.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots per game as a junior at Steward School. He hit 12 of 40 threes for 30 percent,.

“His footwork in the post … there have been a couple of college coaches that have compared him to Tim Duncan,” Steward coach Curt Kassab said in an interview with Kentucky.com. “He plays and even kind of looks a little bit like him.

“He has hook shots going over either shoulder with either hand. I’ve had coaches come in to watch him work out and say, ‘Is he right-handed or left-handed?’ He’s actually right-handed, but it’s hard to tell, especially inside,” Kassab added,

Reid has considered moving from the Class of 2021 to 2020, but that option at this point seems unlikely, his coach said.

“He’s a very versatile, skilled post player. He can play stretch 4, he can play the 5,” Kassab told Kentucky.com. “He can shoot the three, he has good handles for a big guy. He has little bit of an old-school post game. He has an unbelievable ceiling. He’s very focused. He’s very bright. His basketball IQ is off the charts,” Kassab noted.

Musaka interested in Kansas

Tichyque Musaka, a 6-foot-11 junior center from Valley Christian School in San Jose, California, discussed his recent scholarship offer from KU with Zagsblog.com.

“The coach at Kansas came to see me at my high school earlier this year,” Musaka said. “He (coach Bill Self) needs a big man like me. They need someone that can finish, rebound and block shots.”

Musaka, who is originally from Kinshasa, Congo, is considering KU, Marquette, TCU, Oregon, USC, Georgetown, DePaul and others.

Musaka was planning on playing for West Coast Elite AAU this spring and summer, but the AAU season has been put on hold because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

“I lift weights at my house and go to the park with my coaches,” Musaka told Zagsblog.com of his workout schedule. “They give me some training. I put up shots in the morning. I’m really really busy with schoolwork, doing homework every day.”

KU remains on Baldwin’s list of schools

Patrick Baldwin, a 6-9 junior forward from Hamilton High School in Sussex, Wisconsin, and son of former Leavenworth High and Northwestern University standout Pat Baldwin, has KU on his list of schools.

“Bill Self, you have rarely ever heard of a bad story about him and he is a really good guy,” Baldwin told Rivals.com. “Obviously, my dad’s family is there so they live an hour or two away from the arena (Allen Fieldhouse).

“Even just playing at a place like Kansas, it is someplace where my grandparents, who are getting older, could see me a little bit more and I would get to be able to get to know them better than I would if I went to a school further away and it is a winning program, obviously. You want to surround yourself with good people and winning attitudes so it would be about family and winning which intrigues me about that program,” added Baldwin, ranked No. 3 in the recruiting Class of 2021 by Rivals.com..

Baldwin is considering KU, Duke, Kentucky, North Carolina, Northwestern, Wisconsin, UCLA, Illinois, DePaul, Marquette and others. He’s also considering playing for his dad, Patrick Sr., who is head coach at UW-Milwaukee.

Garrett, Agbaji to be drafted in 2021?

KU’s Marcus Garrett and Ochai Agbaji are the only Jayhawks listed in ESPN.com’s first 2021 mock draft.

Garrett, who recently announced plans to return to KU for his senior season, is listed as the No. 10 pick of Round Two and Agbaji, who will return for his junior campaign, is listed as No. 16 of the second round.

The No. 1 pick in the 2021 Draft is projected to be incoming Oklahoma State freshman Cade Cunningham.

“The Jayhawks’ starting backcourt was set when Garrett and Agbaji elected to pass on the 2020 draft. Both played bit roles offensively behind All-Americans Devon Dotson and Udoka Azubuike and will be asked to fill the scoring void next season,” wrote Jonathan Givony of ESPN.com.

“Garrett, named the Naismith Defensive Player of the Year, emerged as the team’s de facto point guard while demonstrating terrific versatility, but he will need to show improvement as a perimeter shooter to hold scouts’ interest. Agbaji didn’t make the leap some hoped as a sophomore, but his stock is still rising, considering that he was on track to redshirt his freshman season before injuries nixed those plans,” Givony added.
