Tre White, high schooler from San Antonio, decommits from KU but keeps Jayhawks in mix

Tre White, a 6-foot-5 sophomore shooting guard out of Cornerstone Christian High in San Antonio, Texas, who committed to play basketball at Kansas on June, 23, has decided to reopen his recruitment.

He made the announcement Friday afternoon on Twitter.

“At this time I would personally like to thank the great staff at Kansas. After much conversation with my family I have decided to open up my recruitment and go through the entire recruitment process and make a decision on the college that best fits my academic and basketball needs to help me reach all the goals I have set in my life. I once again want to thank Kansas for their support as I go through this process,” White wrote on Twitter.

White is originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and has lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as well.

The No, 37-ranked player in the recruiting Class of 2022 via Rivals.com has not yet formulated a new list of possible schools. He told Corey Evans of Rivals.com that KU will be included.

“Already regarded as one of the best at his particular position in his class nationally, finding suitors, both locally and across America, will not be difficult,” writes Evans.

“While the Jayhawks will definitely remain in the hunt for White’s next commitment, expect for the very best to pursue. Entering his first full year at Cornerstone Christian in Texas, White has already shown the ability to play on and off of the ball. He is an improved shooter and athlete, with a strong work ethic that should treat him well as he gets older.”

Rivals.com’s Eric Bossi, who saw White play last weekend said: “He has been known as an above the rim finisher in transition but his added pull-up jumper and the way he’s creating space off the bounce without having to dance with the ball bodes well for his development.”

White back in June told The Star he chose KU over Illinois, LSU, Texas Tech and Auburn as well as “a couple other schools.”

“I’m really excited. I think it was the best decision for me,” White said at that time. “They’ve always been a top team to watch and great program. They were on me early. I get to play for a Hall of Fame coach (Bill Self) and be part of a great program.”
