Former KU guard McBride to Vanderbilt; Devonté Graham converts 10 threes in NBA game
Former Kansas guard Issac McBride, who announced plans to transfer from KU in September, has committed to play basketball at Vanderbilt, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
McBride, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, initially chose KU over Arkansas, Auburn, TCU, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, SMU and others.
The 6-foot McBride averaged 28.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game during his senior season at Arkansas Baptist Prep. He was the 2019 Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year.
According to reporter Richard Davenport of the Democrat-Gazette, McBride did not receive a scholarship offer from Arkansas after leaving KU. He played AAU ball for the Arkansas Hawks. His AAU team also reported the commitment via Twitter on Wednesday night.
If McBride enrolls at Vandy for second semester classes, he’d be eligible to play at the end of the fall semester in the 2020-21 season.
Graham ties Hornets record for threes in game
Graham, who scored 33 points (two off his career high of 35), also had nine assists, seven rebounds and two steals. A second-year pro, Graham matched Kemba Walker’s single-game franchise record for threes in a game.
Graham is the only NBA player this season with multiple games of nine or more threes. KU assistant coach Norm Roberts attended Wednesday’s Hornets game.
“I wish I would have beat it,” Graham said of the three-point record in an interview with NBA.com after the game. “I didn’t know. Maybe if somebody had told me I would have started jacking up more threes. That’s my guy though,” he added of Walker, “and it’s great to be in that category. I’ve always had confidence in myself. It just keeps growing when I have games like this. I’m learning more, watching film and now noticing it in games.”
