KU football team gets commitment from Texas junior college linebacker

LAWRENCE – The Kansas football program picked up another late addition to its 2015 recruiting class, landing a commitment from linebacker Jayd Kirby of Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas.

The news was first reported by Rivals.com on Tuesday morning.

Kirby (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) chose Kansas after receiving preliminary interest from TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech and Arizona State. Those schools, according to Rivals.com, were more interested in Kirby for the 2016 class.

Kansas, though, was able to offer Kirby a scholarship for this fall. A former high school quarterback, Kirby will have three seasons of eligibility at Kansas. His addition could offer more depth at linebacker, a thin position group after the graduation of senior Ben Heeney.

The Jayhawks previously picked up a late commitment from graduate transfer Marcquis Roberts of South Carolina.
