Kansas fired women’s basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson on Monday after 11 seasons at the school.

Kansas athletic director Sheahon Zenger announced the dismissal in a news release.

Henrickson reached the NCAA Tournament twice during her tenure, advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2012 and 2013, both times as a double-digit seed. Kansas also reached the Women’s NIT five times during the span.

The Jayhawks finished 15-17 this season, including a 5-13 mark in the Big 12 Conference, their second straight losing season. This season ended with a loss to K-State at the Big 12 Tournament in Dallas — the Jayhawks’ third loss to its in-state rival this season.

“Bonnie has been an outstanding representative of the University of Kansas and Kansas athletics,” Zenger said. “It came down to the fact that we expect this program to rank among the best in the Big 12 Conference, and we have not accomplished that goal.”

KU assistant coach Katie O’Connor will serve as the program’s interim coach while a search for a replacement begins, Zenger said.
