Jake Waters and Tyler Lockett are about to reunite on the football field.

This time, instead of working together to create long passing gains and score touchdowns for Kansas State, they will team up in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks.

Waters told the Omaha World Herald that he is on his way to Seattle to sign a free agent contract with the team following an injury to backup quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Waters worked out for the Seahawks on Aug. 4. In Seattle he will join Lockett, the top statistical receiver in K-State history and his favorite target.

The duo combined for 106 complete passes, 1,515 yards and 11 touchdowns last season. Waters threw for 3,501 yards and 22 touchdowns on the year, setting a school record for single-season passing yards. During his K-State career, Lockett made 249 catches for 3,710 yards.

Lockett is already making a name for himself in the NFL as a kick returner. He had two big returns in his preseason debut, running one back 103 yards for a touchdown.

As luck would have it, Waters and Lockett will play their first preseason game together in a familiar location -- Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Jackson is suffering from a high-ankle sprain, so his absence is not expected to be long term. But Waters can make a case for a roster spot with a strong effort.

Waters originally went undrafted, signing a free agent deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. But he was quickly waived in favor of more experienced talent. He spent much of his summer running youth football camps in the Sunflower State with former teammate Curry Sexton. But he kept himself in good shape the whole time, waiting for another NFL team to call.

He now has his opportunity, with a friendly face ready to welcome him to his new team.
