Economic study finds K-State athletics generates $428 million in annual economic activity for state
Ever wonder how much money K-State athletics generates for the state of Kansas?
A study by Angelou Economics provides the answer: $428 million annually.
K-State released the findings Thursday.
Other pertinent numbers revealed in the study include:
▪ An estimated 4,075 jobs have resulted from K-State’s athletic impact across Manhattan and the state.
▪ Approximately 428,000 people visit Manhattan each year for K-State sporting events.
▪ The average visitor spends $289 while in Manhattan for a K-State game.
▪ Fans spend $42.5 million annually at hotels while supporting the Wildcats.
▪ Fans spend $42.1 million annually at restaurants while supporting the Wildctas.
“We set out to exhaustively study ourselves this summer on various fronts,” K-State athletic director John Currie said in a statement, “and this study from Angelou Economics paints a solid picture of the overall value and impact K-State Athletics has on the local economy.”
