Kansas State’s Nino Williams recovering from minor injuries

After undergoing medical tests on his left knee Wednesday, senior Kansas State forward Nino Williams was told he sustained minor injuries against West Virginia and should be able to return to the basketball court soon, according to Williams’ former guardian Derek Zeck.

“It is just a minor deal,” said Zeck, owner of Zeck Ford in Leavenworth, by phone after speaking with Williams. “He had a MRI and nothing major showed up. His playing status may be up in the air. You could call him questionable or day-to-day, but he will be back soon.”

Williams scored six points in eight minutes of action on Tuesday during a 65-59 loss to West Virginia, missing the majority of the game with what K-State coach Bruce Weber described as a “tweaked knee.” He was in obvious pain on the bench, and wore several bandages and braces over the injury as the game went on.

Weber said he was unsure of the extent of Williams’ injury following the game. But there was fear that it could sideline him for significant time. Weber said he would know more following tests on Wednesday.

The Wildcats next play at No. 9 Kansas on Saturday.

Williams has been one of K-State’s top players, averaging 11.7 points and 4.9 rebounds. He has twice been named Big 12 player of the week. Before suffering his latest injury, he averaged 20 points and seven rebounds in three consecutive games.
