Kansas State to play Boston College in semifinals of Barclays Center Classic
Kansas State will play Boston College in the semifinals of the Barclays Center Classic next basketball season, the tournament announced Tuesday.
The game will be played on Nov. 25 in Brooklyn as part of a double-header that will also feature Maryland and Richmond. The winner of both games will advance to the tournament championship game the following day. Both losers will play for third.
Tip times and television information will be announced at a later date.
“We are obviously excited to play in this high-quality preseason tournament in a world-class basketball venue like the Barclays Center,” K-State coach Bruce Weber said. “I know Boston College was a young team last season and return their nucleus to go with a solid recruiting class. Maryland was one of the best teams in the country a year ago and should be again among the best with the return of (Melo) Trimble. Richmond is always one of the better teams in the Atlantic 10. This will be high-level experience for our team relatively early in the season.”
Boston College is coming off a 7-25 season in which it finished last in the ACC, going winless in conference play. Richmond went 16-16 last season. Maryland was a top 25 team a year ago, advancing to the Sweet 16.
A K-State/Maryland final would be an intriguing game.
Maryland coach Mark Turgeon has several connections with the Sunflower State, having grown up in Topeka. He also played college basketball at Kansas and coached at Wichita State.
K-State will open the 2015-16 season with four consecutive home games before departing Manhattan for the Barclays Center Classic.
