Edwards helps out
Justin Edwards played arguably his finest game in a Kansas State uniform Saturday.
The Maine transfer came off the bench and filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals. Along with 20 points from Nino Williams and 14 points from Marcus Foster, the Wildcats had a nice trio on offense, especially in the second half when Edwards made the majority of his plays.
“Justin kind of took over,” K-State coach Bruce Weber said, “and made a couple big plays that helped us maintain the lead and maybe even expand it.”
Edwards made the team’s only two three-pointers, while also driving to the basket for easy points.
“It’s just playing my game more and helping Marcus get a break and helping Wesley (Iwundu) get a break,” Edwards said. “I’m coming in and just producing without letting the lead slide down.”
Edwards has not lived up to the high expectations that surrounded him in the preseason, but this was a step in the right direction.
“I thought I was pressing too much,” Edwards said. “I just try to relax now and let the game come to me. I have been focusing on defense lately, which has been helping me on offense. That is a key thing for me.”
Sweet revenge
No one was happier about beating Oklahoma State than Foster. The sophomore guard went scoreless in a loss at Oklahoma State earlier this month, but he bounced back with 14 points and five assists in the rematch.
“My revenge was all about getting the win,” Foster said.
