Free points
Baylor was at its best from the free-throw line during an 82-72 victory against Kansas State on Wednesday at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Bears made 29 of 30 foul shots, which helped them hold off the Wildcats as they tried to mount a late comeback.
“They were very focused and cut in, all the terms that coaches use,” K-State coach Bruce Weber said of Baylor. We were not awful. We went 20 of 23 from the free-throw line. We did not make the plays when we needed to. They did.”
Baylor coach Scott Drew hopes his team can duplicate that effort in future games.
“I love the free-throw shooting,” Drew said. “The players were really focused tonight and it started with the upper classmen. They were determined out there.”
Tournament run
K-State junior forward D.J. Johnson said K-State’s ultimate goal is to qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
The Wildcats’ hopes for an at-large berth took a hit Wednesday, but Johnson thinks they are still in the mix. So does Weber.
“We just need to go on a run,” Weber said, “and win some more games.”
