Kaleb Prewett no longer member of Kansas State football team
Kaleb Prewett spent the majority of last season as Kansas State’s starting free safety, but he will not return to compete for playing time at the position, coach Bill Snyder announced Wednesday.
It is unclear whether the former Blue Springs (Mo.) standout decided to transfer or was dismissed from the team.
When asked why Prewett was no longer with the Wildcats, Snyder had little to say.
“Just some issues,” he said.
Prewett, a sophomore, didn’t respond to a call and text message seeking comment.
Prewett started the first six games for K-State last season, missed one week with a concussion and rejoined the starting lineup for two more games. He was ultimately replaced at free safety by Kendall Adams. Prewett was arrested by Riley County Police on an underage drinking charge in early December and didn’t travel with the Wildcats to the Liberty Bowl.
He ranked fourth on the team with 49 tackles last season and made solid contributions on special teams as a freshman. He was expected to compete for playing time next season. Instead, he will look to transfer, joining quarterback Jonathan Banks as the second scholarship player to leave the program this week.
Snyder also confirmed the departure of three walkons, saying quarterbacks Landon Root and Zach Davidson, as well as defensive back Hunter Knoblauch had to decided to pursue other passions.
“We had some young guys who just want to invest their time in getting their education and spending more time in the classroom,” Snyder said. “I can appreciate that.”
