It’s been a productive few days of recruiting for the Kansas State football team.

Breontae Matthews, a three-star offensive lineman from California’s Fullerton Community College, orally committed to the Wildcats on Monday, choosing them over scholarship offers from Missouri and Memphis. The 6-foot-6, 315-pound tackle also received interest from Auburn.

“I can’t wait to protect my future (quarterback’s) blindside for the next two years with that silver and purple on,” Matthews wrote on Twitter, “and to compete for a Big 12 championship.”

Matthews is a quality addition at a position of need. He will be expected to compete for playing time at left or right tackle in his debut season after the Wildcats lose left tackle Cody Whitehair and Matt Kleinsorge.

K-State also recently gained a commitment from California transfer Cedric Dozier, a junior cornerback who will graduate early from the university and be eligible to play for the Wildcats immediately.

Both players should help boost a recruiting class that was hurting for talent a week ago, losing its fourth commitment of the year.

Salina South tight end Trace Kochevar also committed to K-State over the weekend, but he will defer enrollment one semester and join the 2017 recruiting class.

K-State also received good news Monday when defensive back Tre Jackson, a four-star cornerback, withdrew his commitment from South Carolina. Jackson visited Manhattan over the weekend, and the Wildcats now face less competition as they pursue him.
