Brown down
Barry Brown had scored at least 15 points in eachof Kansas State’s past four games, but the freshman guard saw his hot streak end Saturday.
He managed four points, making 1 of 10 shots.
Brown didn’t speak with media afterward, but coach Bruce Weber suggested he was hurt by a lack of effort in practice. He said Brown put in extra work after each practice during winter break, but stopped that routine after he scored 15 points against Texas Tech on Tuesday.
“If you want to be a good player,” Weber said, “you have to get in the gym.”
Few subs
Iowa State has lacked depth all season, but it was down an extra man Saturday, reserve guard Hallice Cooke, who was suspended for a violation of team rules.
The Cyclones responded by using seven players, and it was enough for victory. Coach Steve Prohm praised his team for avoiding fouls and playing quality defense on a day that couldn’t take many risks or get much rest.
