Williams likely to redshirt
Kansas State coach Bruce Weber said after the game that 7-foot freshman center Dante Williams was likely to redshirt this season.
“I think that’s what’s probably going to happen at this point,” Weber said. “He’s had a back (injury), then a foot … and that’s hard to deal with when you weren’t in shape to begin with and you’re 7-foot-1. It’s hard to see him playing this season at this point. We’ve just got to hope that D.J. (Johnson) holds up for us.”
Budke always ready
Foul trouble for freshman forward Dean Wade forced Weber to use reserve forward Austin Budke, a Beloit native and Hutchinson Community College product, extensively in both halves.
Budke played 20 minutes and scored 7 points and played 20 or more minutes for the third time this season and second time in the last three games following 21 minutes on the floor in a win over Colorado State on Dec. 19.
Worth noting
Kansas State has used the same starting lineup in all 12 of its games — Kamau Stokes, Stephen Hurt, Wesley Iwundu, Justin Edwards and Dean Wade.… Junior guard Carlbe Ervin hit his first career three-pointer in the second half, putting K-State up 46-35 with 11:44 left in the game.… Weber and Saint Louis coach Jim Crews were quick to praise each other after the game. The two have a relationship that goes back to when Crews was an assistant at Indiana under Bob Knight and Weber was an assistant at Purdue under Gene Keady. “He’s someone I have a lot of respect for,” Crews said. “Someone who I’m glad is part of our coaching profession.”
