K-State women pull away late from Southern 59-47
Breanna Lewis and Kindred Wesemann scored 16 points each Wednesday afternoon to lead Kansas State to a 59-47 women’s basketball victory over Southern University in Manhattan.
Lewis made 7 of 12 shots and grabbed nine rebounds for the Wildcats (4-1), who trailed 25-23 at halftime and only led by one point entering the fourth quarter.
Wesemann made 4 of 8 shots and all six of her free throws. Teammate Shaelyn Martin didn’t score but had 11 rebounds and seven assists in 31 minutes.
Danayea Charles’ free throws with 6:19 to play pulled Southern within 43-41, then Kansas State scored 13 of the next 15 points to pull away. Kaylee Page and Lewis had two baskets each during the run.
