No Bull, or is he?

Two opposing coaches have compared K-State junior Wesley Iwundu to Scottie Pippen this season.

South Dakota coach Craig Smith echoed the words of Columbia coach Kyle Smith.

“Wesley Iwundu is a heck of a player,” Smith said. “He is a guy when I was an assistant at Nebraska we offered and signed him up for an official visit and ended up taking someone else. We made a mistake there. He is like Scottie Pippen out there. He is a triple-double guy out there. Any given night he can make plays for others and get to the rim. He has really expanded his game.”

Imagine what Smith would have had Iwundu been at his best. Iwundu scored a season-low seven points.

Quick Learner

When Dean Wade signed with Kansas State last fall, the biggest question surrounding him was how quickly he could adjust to the college game. Having played high school basketball for Class 2A St. John, there was some doubt he could make the leap immediately, but the transition has come easy.

The freshman forward has played well in all three of K-State’s games. On Friday, he had 15 points and eight rebounds. He made his biggest impact on the boards, fighting for rebounds and scoring points on put backs.

Foul Frenzy

Friday’s game was an example of what can happen under the new officiating emphasis. K-State and South Dakota combined for 50 fouls and 59 free throws.

The Wildcats took advantage of the foul-fest and attempted 45 free throws, making 36. The Coyotes were 9 of 14 from the line.
