Nino Williams was named Big 12 men’s basketball player of the week on Monday following a pair of strong efforts against Bradley and Savannah State.

The senior Kansas State forward from St. Louis led the Wildcats to victory in both games, scoring 14 points and grabbing 12 rebounds against the Braves and adding 20 points and seven rebounds against the Tigers.

Williams shot 56.3 percent from the field last week, but he was even better at the free-throw line, where he went 16 of 18.

After missing K-State’s first two games while recovering from a surgecial procedure on his knee. He has scored eight or more points in every game since, and he has scored at least 10 points in four straight games. On the season, he is averaging 12.8 points and 5.1 rebounds.

“Nino has been very consistent,” K-State basketball coach Bruce Weber said Sunday. “He has been our best player. “He plays happy, he comes to practice and plays with great energy. He has been banged up a little bit, but every day he gives his all. I couldn’t be happier for him.”
