Scheduling strife
K-State coach Bruce Weber said the Wildcats had no input in the timing of Saturday’s game because of it was a part of the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. Despite K-State’s loss, the Big 12 won six of the challenge’s 10 games.
“I probably overscheduled,” Weber said. “It was my fault. This game we had no choice. But with Long Beach and Maui, I probably overdid it. You learn from it and get better and hopefully this will help us down the road.”
K-State will play two more SEC teams this month (Texas A&M on Dec. 20 and Georgia on Dec. 31) before conference play begins. With Saturday’s loss, the Wildcats are now 158-146 all-time against SEC teams.
Hurting for playing time
Though Tennessee was without its biggest player, 6-foot-10, 280-pound Dominic Woodson, the Wildcats’ biggest player did not receive an increase in playing time. Stephen Hurt logged only 12 minutes, eight of which came in the first half.
The 6-foot-11, 265-pounder entered averaging 16 minutes.
“Hurt I thought did a great job in the first half,” Weber said. “He needs 15-18 minutes every game, and he’s made a lot of strides and he works very hard. He’s got a great attitude and I can’t ask for more from him. Probably need to get him a few more minutes here and there.”
