Kansas State’s Travis Britz will not play against Kansas
Travis Britz will not play against Kansas on Saturday while he recovers from an injury to his left ankle.
“Travis will be out,” Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder said during the Big 12 coaches teleconference Monday. “That’s what I’ll tell you.”
Snyder did not elaborate on the injury or when Britz, a starting junior Kansas State defensive tackle, may return to action.
Britz hurt his ankle in the first quarter against West Virginia on Thursday, and needed help off the field. He wasn’t able to put weight on his left foot.
K-State will miss Britz. He was having a breakout season before the injury with 27 tackles, including three sacks. The Wildcats have depth in the middle of its defensive line. Topeka native Will Geary figures to replace Britz in the starting lineup, with junior-college transfer Terrell Clinkscales rotating in.
“Replacing Travis is not an easy thing to do,” Snyder said Monday. “That’s not the way you look at it, but we’ve had more young guys at that position get on the field and garner experience through the course of the year than any other position.”
No kickoff time for Baylor – Kansas State will have to wait another week to learn when it will play Baylor on Dec. 6 in Waco, Texas. The Big 12 and its television partners are utilizing a six-day window to decide when to schedule kickoff. The available time slots are 11 a.m. on ABC or ESPN, 2:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1, 6:45 p.m. on ESPN and 7 p.m. on ABC.
Other Big 12 games on Dec. 6 include Oklahoma State at Oklahoma and Iowa State at TCU.
Lockett wins weekly honor – Senior receiver Tyler Lockett was named Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday. It is the second time this season and the seventh time of his career that he was won the honor.
Lockett returned a 43-yard punt for a touchdown against West Virginia.
