Wildcat report (Oct. 10)

First quarter

Key play: TCU running back Aaron Green rushed for an 86-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage.

Key stat: TCU gained 179 yards.

Second quarter

Key play: Marquel Bryant hit Trevone Boykin while he was attempting a pass and Elijah Lee came up with an interception.

Key stat: K-State won the time of possession battle by a wide margin (22:47 to 7:13) at halftime.

Third quarter

Key play: Derrick Kindred intercepted a pass from Joe Hubener and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown.

Key stat: Joe Hubener completed one of 11 pass attempts.

Fourth quarter

Key play: Trevone Boykin connected with Josh Doctson for game-winning touchdown.

Key stat: Joe Hubener turned the ball over twice in the second half.

Reason to hope

The Wildcats have come within a handful of plays of two big upsets. This team can compete with the nation’s best.

Reason to mope

K-State has played its heart out in back-to-back games and has nothing to show for it.

Looking ahead

Oklahoma will be angry after falling to Texas. The Sooners typically play well in Manhattan, and Bob Stoops has won by huge margins in his last two trips to Snyder Family Stadium.

Report card

Offense: B. K-State ran the ball at will in the first half. For whatever reason, it strayed from that strategy in the second half.

Defense: C. The Wildcats were down a starting safety and two cornerbacks. They did what they could against the Horned Frogs.

Special teams: B. TCU regularly had big returns. But Jack Cantele made a huge kick in the fourth quarter.

Coaching: C. K-State had a brilliant game plan early, and a poor game plan late. Conservative play calling in the second half would have made a big difference.
