Kansas State basketball lands top 100 recruit Xavier Sneed
Kansas State basketball coach Bruce Weber received some good recruiting news Monday when Xavier Sneed, a highly-touted small forward from Hazelwood (Mo.) Central High, orally committed to the Wildcats.
Sneed is the No. 92 rated high school senior in the nation and a four-star recruit, according to Rivals. Scout and 247sports rate him as a three-star wing.
Sneed, 6-foot-5 and 180 pounds, chose K-State over Illinois and Xavier. Missouri, Creighton, Minnesota and Wichita State also offered him scholarships.
Sneed took an official visit to K-State earlier this month, taking in the Wildcats’ opening football game against South Dakota. He announced his decision among friends at a public ceremony Monday afternoon. He also shared the news on Twitter.
“I want to thank God for all the blessings he has given me,” Sneed wrote. “I have made my choice and will be attending Kansas State University.”
It wasn’t all good recruiting news for K-State on Monday, as three-star guard Breein Tyree chose Mississippi over K-State and Massachusetts. But Sneed was the priority.
He is the first member of K-State’s 2016 recruiting class. His commitment offers hope that Weber can successfully battle other name programs for prominent recruits after a tumultuous offseason in which the bulk of K-State’s roster opted to transfer.
Sneed also plays for St. Louis Eagles AAU program.
