Jacob Lockett has chosen to forge his own college football path.

The 6-foot and 170-pound wide receiver from Blue Valley High School has decided not to follow in the family footsteps after he moves on to the next level. Unlike his father (Kevin), his uncle (Aaron) and two of his older brothers (Tyler and Sterling), he will not play football at Kansas State.

Lockett announced his intentions to enroll at Old Dominion on Wednesday via a post on social media.

“Excited to announce that I am committing to Old Dominion University,” he wrote. “I’d like to thank God, my family and all of my coaches for all you have done for me on this journey. Excited for what’s in store for me.”

K-State football coach Collin Klein offered Jacob Lockett a scholarship earlier this month, and many took it as a forgone conclusion that he would commit to the Wildcats.

The three-sport athlete caught 37 passes for 609 yards and eight touchdowns in high school last season. His talents seemed like a fit in Manhattan. And he is related to some of the top playmakers in school history.

Tyler Lockett is the most accomplished wide receiver in school history. He owns just about every program record imaginable with 249 catches for 3,710 yards and 29 touchdowns. There is a reason why he went on to have a successful career in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans and Las Vegas Raiders.

Kevin Lockett is just behind him, with 3,032 career yards.

Not to be outdone, Aaron Lockett piled up 2,400 receiving yards when he played for the Wildcats.

K-State was the first power-conference team to offer Jacob Lockett a scholarship. Lockett previously held offers from Old Dominion, Army, Pittsburg State, Southeast Missouri State and a few junior colleges.

His twin brother, Jordan Lockett, also holds a scholarship offer from Old Dominion.

It is easy to see why Old Dominion recruited the Lockett brothers hard. Old Dominion head coach Ricky Rahne was once an assistant coach at K-State. Defensive coordinator Blake Seiler, offensive coordinator Kody Cook and wide receivers coach Michael Smith also have connections to the Wildcats and the Lockett family.

Jordan Lockett has decided to play for them in college, and follow a new path that doesn’t begin at K-State.
