  • Running back Dylan Edwards expected to return at full speed vs. UCF.
  • Edwards left off Big 12 injury report after limited action thus far.
  • K-State rush offense averages 108 yards, ranked last in Big 12 without Edwards.

Earlier this week, Kansas State football coach Chris Klieman said he was “hopeful” that star running back Dylan Edwards would be healthy enough to play at “full speed” when the Wildcats returned to action for their next game against UCF.

Things are still trending in that direction.

Edwards did not appear on the Big 12’s initial injury report that was released ahead of Saturday’s game between K-State and UCF, which will be played at 11 a.m. inside Bill Snyder Family Stadium.

That means he is considered healthy by the K-State coaching staff.

That is good news for the Wildcats, who have sorely missed their starting running back this season. Without him, K-State has only averaged 108 rushing yards per game. That number ranks last in the Big 12 by a significant margin.

Edwards, who rushed for 546 yards and five touchdowns on 74 carries last season, was limited to just one play in the season-opener against Iowa State before he exited with an ankle injury. Edwards remained on the sideline for games against North Dakota and Army. Then he was only able to stay on the field for one quarter during a loss against Arizona.

But with two weeks between games, he now appears to be feeling better as he prepares to play against the Knights.

It isn’t all good injury news for the Wildcats, though. The following players have been ruled out for Saturday’s game:

  • Colby McCalister (safety)
  • Jerand Bradley (wide receiver)
  • Ralph Ortiz (linebacker)
  • Cub Patton (punter/kicker)
  • Dominic Mitchell (safety)
  • Darien Whitaker (linebacker)
  • Maguire Richman (linebacker)
  • George Fitzpatrick (offensive lineman)
  • Michael Capria (offensive lineman)
  • Joe Vickers (offensive lineman)
  • Leyton Simmering (kicker)

Defensive tackle Holden Bass is listed as doubtful and defensive lineman Patrick Tackle is considered probable.

UCF will be without a pair of defensive backs in Isaiah Reed and Jayde Williams. Edge rusher Josh Dorsainvil will also miss the game.

Dylan Wade, DJ Bell, Isaiah Nixon and Connor Meadows are considered questionable for the Knights.
