Wichita native leaving the Kansas State women’s basketball team via transfer
A key starter has decided to transfer away from the Kansas State women’s basketball team.
Zyanna Walker, a Wichita Heights product who averaged 8.2 points and 3.8 rebounds while starting all 36 games for the Wildcats this past season, is on the move. The sophomore guard will look to finish her college career elsewhere after she spent two productive seasons in Manhattan.
Walker entered her name in the transfer portal Friday.
The 5-foot-11 playmaker began her college career at Louisville but quickly transferred to play for Jeff Mittie and K-State as a redshirt freshman. Last year, she helped the Wildcats earn a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament as a valuable reserve by averaging 6.8 points and 3.7 rebounds. She grew into a larger role this season as K-State advanced to its first Sweet 16 in more than two decades.
Walker will have two years of college eligibility remaining at her new school.
As a high school player at Wichita Heights, she was a four-star recruit and the 2022 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year.
She is not the first K-State women’s basketball player to transfer this offseason. Eliza Maupin, Brylee Glenn and Finley Ohnstad have also announced plans to play elsewhere next year.
