Kansas State and Missouri shift in top 25 rankings after important conference wins

One of Kansas State’s rewards for defeating West Virginia 45-18 on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium was a move up in the college football polls.

The Wildcats checked in at No. 16 in both the Associated Press and Coaches Poll rankings when the new top 25s were released on Sunday. That is up one spot from where they were at last week.

K-State (6-1, 3-1 Big 12) is ranked behind a pair of other teams in the Big 12. Iowa State leads the way at No. 10 in both polls, while BYU is No. 11 in the AP and No. 12 in the Coaches.

Missouri is also in the top 25 this week, but the Tigers did not receive the same kind of credit for winning an important SEC game against Auburn on Saturday. Missouri (6-1, 2-1 SEC) dropped to No. 17 in the Coaches Poll and to No. 21 in the AP rankings, despite a come-from-behind victory over Auburn.

Every team in the country is now trying to keep up with Oregon, which jumped to No. 1 in both polls. That movement occurred after Georgia pulled off a road upset against Texas. Georgia is now at No. 2, followed by Penn State and Ohio State.

Texas rounds out the top 5 in the AP poll, while the coaches have Miami at No. 5.

Next up for K-State is a 7 p.m. home game against Kansas on Saturday at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Missouri will next play at Alabama.
