Chris Klieman adds new position to Kansas State football staff for roster management

Chris Klieman is the latest college football coach to create a job on his staff that will focus mostly on roster management, similar to what you see in the NFL with a general manager.

Kansas State announced a pair of promotions within Klieman’s football staff on Wednesday, one of which resulted in the first ever job title of roster management director for the Wildcats.

Clint Brown, a veteran college football coach who has spent the past two seasons as an offensive quality control coach in Manhattan, has been tabbed for the role. It could become an important position for K-State, given how much roster turnover is currently taking place thanks to the rise of transfers.

“Clint has been a vital member of our staff since his arrival and has played a big part in the overall success of our program,” Klieman said in a statement announcing the new job. “With recruiting, the transfer portal, NIL and overall roster management becoming more and more of a daily function, we wanted to identify an experienced person who was familiar with our program and culture. Clint fits that perfectly, and I am excited for his new role and continued impact on our football student-athletes.”

Other college football teams, including the Kansas Jayhawks, have hired staffers to similar roles in recent years.

It seems as though Brown will be in charge of tracking transfers, NIL valuations and scholarship numbers for K-State moving forward.

Taylor Wenger, a football operations assistant in 2022 and 2023, has also been promoted to assistant director of football operations.

She has worked closely with director of football operations Kacey Feldkamp in Manhattan. In her new role, Wenger will assist with team travel, game-day logistics, camps and clinics, team organization and daily player operations.
