Football transfers continue to pile up for Kansas State as Kobe Savage enters portal

Kansas State’s football roster won’t look the same when the Wildcats show up in Orlando for the Pop-Tarts Bowl later this month.

Transfers continue to pile up in Manhattan.

The Wildcats lost another player to the NCAA transfer portal on Monday. The latest addition is a significant one. Kobe Savage, a 5-foot-11 and 207-pound senior safety, has decided to play elsewhere after he piled up 115 tackles and six interceptions over the past two seasons at K-State.

Savage is the 16th player to announce his intentions to transfer away from K-State since the regular season ended in late November. That number is most likely higher than head coach Chris Klieman expected with the Wildcats coming off an 8-4 campaign.

Not all of K-State’s transfer losses have been notable. But Savage is a big loss.

He has been a leader and a playmaker in the secondary ever since he signed with the Wildcats out of junior college. Savage made 58 tackles and three interceptions as a junior before his season was cut short due to a knee injury. He returned to the field this year and made 57 tackles and three interceptions.

Savage was named a captain at the start of this year, and teammates referred to him as “the quarterback of the defense.”

He is one of the best departing transfers that played for K-State this season, along with quarterback Will Howard, defensive end Nate Matlack and cornerback Will Lee.

The majority of K-State’s transfers have yet to announce where they will play next season, but two of them have already found new homes.

Lee has announced that he will transfer to Texas A&M and reserve quarterback Jake Rubley has landed with Illinois State.
