Kansas State joins Duke, Kentucky as a finalist for five-star recruit Patrick Ngongba
Five-star basketball recruit Patrick Ngongba is serious about Kansas State.
Not only is the 6-foot-10 and 235-pound center scheduled to make an official visit to Manhattan this weekend, he also has the Wildcats listed in his final three ... along with traditional powers Duke and Kentucky.
Ngongba told On3 recruiting expert Joe Tipton that he plans to pick between those schools on Nov. 4, two days before the 2023 college basketball season begins.
One of the top uncommitted players in the recruiting class of 2024, Ngongba was previously considering eight schools. But he is no longer looking at Connecticut, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan or Providence.
This is big news for K-State basketball, which rarely finds itself in the running for five-star recruits, especially against traditional powers.
The Wildcats haven’t landed a five-star recruit since Wally Judge in 2009.
K-State coach Jerome Tang has been hyping this upcoming weekend on social media. His X (previously known as Twitter) profile is almost entirely reposts of fans and media members discussing Ngongba’s official visit to campus.
Ngonba has already visited Duke and Kentucky. He saved his trip to K-State for last.
Tang and the Wildcats will have an opportunity to impress him this weekend as the football team hosts a morning game against Houston.
After he leaves campus, Ngongba will consider his options and then make his college decision a week later.
No matter what he decides, it appears K-State will be involved until the end.
