Kansas State Wildcats land football recruit who was previously committed to Nebraska
The Kansas State football team has received some positive news on the recruiting front that will make fans happy for multiple reasons.
Not only have the Wildcats gain a commitment from one of the best in-state prospects for the recruiting class of 2024, they have also flipped him away from the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Callen Barta, a 6-foot-2 and 180-pound safety from Topeka, announced on Sunday that he will play for the Wildcats when it is time for him to enroll in college.
He revealed his decision with three words: “I’m staying home!”
Barta originally committed to Nebraska last summer, but K-State continued to recruit him into the fall. The Wildcats apparently made a strong impression on him, because he chose to change allegiances after making a visit to Bill Snyder Family Stadium to watch the Wildcats defeat TCU 41-3 on Saturday.
A three-star recruit for Seaman High, he is considered a top 10 prospect in the Sunflower State.
Barta will have an opportunity to help K-State in the secondary in future seasons, as his combination of speed and size make him a potential difference-maker at the next level.
He will join a handful of other “local” recruits in Manhattan. Lyndon offensive lineman Kaedin Massey, Blue Valley running back John Price and Mill Valley offensive lineman Gus Hawkins have also committed to head coach Chris Klieman and the Wildcats.
