One of the nation’s top 2024 basketball recruits takes official visit to Kansas State
Kansas State men’s basketball coach Jerome Tang is hard at work recruiting for both the present and the future.
After adding a pair of heralded incoming transfers to the team’s roster this offseason, Tang is now shifting his focus to the 2024 recruiting class, at least for a few days.
Derrion Reid, one of the nation’s best high school prospects in the 2024 cycle, arrived in Manhattan for an official visit with the Wildcats on Tuesday night. The 6-foot-7 and 200-pound small forward from Grovetown, Georgia, is giving K-State a serious look along with a throng of other high-profile suitors such as Alabama, Florida State, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi State and Ohio State.
Nineteen different schools have offered Reid a scholarship and more coaches are showing interest in him every day.
It’s easy to see why. Reid is a consensus four-star prospect who is ranked among the top 60 players in his recruiting class. His best national rating comes from On3, which has him slotted at No. 24. He comes in at No. 26 at Rivals and No. 40 at 247Sports.
Reid is averaging 17.9 points and 6.5 rebounds for Team Thad on the Nike EYBL Circuit. His talent and athleticism would make him a welcome addition on the wing should he end up choosing the Wildcats.
He recently told On3 what he likes about K-State.
“Every time they come to my games, they are four deep,” Reid told On3. “They text me almost every other day. We were supposed to do a home visit, but they had another recruit commit they had to go see. It’s tight with them, we’re in contact all the time, and things are great.”
Reid has already made an official recruiting visit to Mississippi State and he has another scheduled for the end of June at Georgia. He may also visit Kansas, Ohio State and other schools in the near future.
K-State will face strong competition for Reid, but the Wildcats are in a nice starting position based on his early visit to Manhattan.
The Wildcats have already locked up one other 2024 commitment from David Castillo, a four-star recruit from Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
