Kansas State picked seventh, Kansas 10th in preseason Big 12 football poll
Kansas State was picked to finish seventh in the preseason Big 12 football poll, announced by the conference Thursday. Kansas was selected 10th.
The poll, which was voted on by media that regularly cover the league, was topped by TCU. The Horned Frogs surprisingly received 32 first-place votes, outpacing second-place Baylor by a wide margin. The Bears, having won the regular-season conference championship in back-to-back years, were expected to split the vote. Instead, they received 10 first-place votes.
Still, they were the only two teams voters predicted to win the league.
Oklahoma was selected third, while Oklahoma State was fourth. Texas was picked fifth, and West Virginia edged K-State for sixth.
The Wildcats are coming off a 9-4 season that ended with a trip to the Alamo Bowl. They went 7-2 in Big 12 games, finishing third, one game behind league champions Baylor and TCU.
Rounding out the poll were Texas Tech, Iowa State and Kansas.
The Jayhawks went 3-9 last season and defeated Iowa State in conference play, finishing ninth in the final Big 12 standings. Not much is expected from Kansas under first-year coach David Beaty. By receiving 45 points in the preseason poll, most of the 42 voters chose the Jayhawks to finish last. Ninth-place Iowa State received 83 points, while TCU received 408.
