About Abilene Christian (5-4)
:

Abilene Christian is on a three-game winning streak under head coach Brette Tanner. The Wildcats have defeated Northern Arizona, North American and Arlington Baptist to push their record above .500 after a 2-4 start. Their losses have come agianst Texas A&M, Wright State, Weber State and California-Riverside. This is not a good offensive team, but Abilene Christian does play at a fast tempo and shoot 38.6% from three-point range, so it has topped 88 points in all of its recent wins.

About Kansas State (7-1):

The Wildcats bounced back from their first loss of the season with a hard-fought victory over Wichita State on Saturday. After playing a difficult stretch of games, Jerome Tang’s team can relax a little bit this week with Abilene Christian and Incarnate Word next on the schedule. Keyontae Johnson, Markquis Nowell and Desi Sills continue to pace K-State on offense. Maybe it can find another scoring option, or two, against inferior competition.

Prediction

There is no such thing as an easy game in college basketball, but Kansas State’s home matchup against Abilene Christian should be far less taxing than what players experienced over the past two weeks.

After playing a string of four straight opponents ranked inside the Ken Pomeroy top 100 (Nevada, LSU, Butler, Wichita State), the Wildcats will now host an Abilene Christian team that ranks No. 177. After that is a home game against No. 355 Incarnate Word.

It will be a major surprise if K-State fails to win both of those games. Odds are high it will win both by double digits.

I like K-State to start off the week with a comfortable victory over Abilene Christian. The visiting team is not good enough on defense to pose any big problems for Keyontae Johnson and company. Nor is it good enough on offense to pull off an upset on the road.

This game should be played at a fast pace. Look for K-State to take advantage of those extra possessions and cover the spread.

K-State 80, Abilene Christian 65

Last game prediction: K-State 70, Wichita State 61

Season record: 7-1.

Season record against the spread: 4-4.
