Prediction
Had this game been played earlier in the season, it might have been one of the best Sunflower Showdown games in the history of this rivalry.
Alas, I am not expecting the Jayhawks and the Wildcats to give us an instant classic on Saturday.
Kansas has slowly been getting worse as the season has progressed because of a mixture of injuries and defensive coaches learning more about its offense. The Jayhawks have dropped five of their past six games after starting the year 5-0.
K-State has been on the other end of the spectrum. The Wildcats are playing their best football of the season now that Will Howard is in command of the offense. K-State is averaging 48 points per game when he starts and nearly 39 points per game when he plays.
Daniels could put some pressure on K-State’s defense as the Wildcats look to play without Kobe Savage and Cincere Mason in the secondary this week. But I don’t see the Jayhawks slowing down the Wildcats at all when they are on offense.
Special teams is also a big advantage for K-State.
The spread feels too low when you consider those factors. The Wildcats should win by three scores.
Kansas is better than it has been a while under Lance Leipold, so the Jayhawks will find a way to keep this game competitive for a while. But K-State will eventually pull away and win comfortably in a high-scoring affair.
K-State 45, KU 27.
Last game prediction: K-State 30, West Virginia 20
2022 record on picks: 4-7
2022 record vs. spread: 4-7
2022 record vs. O/U points total: 6-5
